I mean, sure, he probably would, but I don’t know – he just rubbed me the wrong way.

He has plans to take over like the entire world, under the delusion he would be a good ruler for it. You know the Fever series, by KMM? There’s a quotation in it from Ryodan, where he says something like, “Evil is bad that believes it’s good.” That’s Griffin. I was like, WTF? There’s a whole weird chapter where he verges on domestic abuse and then it’s just forgotten about and he never does it again and Cat is so pathetic she doesn’t, like, skin him for it? Weird.Īlso… I just didn’t like Cat and Griffin as people in this book. At least, when Griffin’s not shaking Cat so hard she hurts herself, as happened in the beginning of the book. I don’t think I’ve EVER come across a book before where reading the romance literally makes me feel like I’m third-wheeling the couple. How the hell did other characters stand to be around Cat and Griffin? They were so constantly loved-up and in each other’s faces that I started to get seriously sick of them. Here, her backbone mostly dissolves into a puddle of love and it makes reading her perspective really irritating. But then, her snarky personality balanced the Mary Sue-ness enough that I could handle it. There were elements of this in the first book, too – she was always powerful and mysterious and magical. Gods willing, they will emerge side-by-side in the heart of their future kingdom…or not at all.Īfter I enjoyed the first book enough to give it an ultra-rare 5 stars, I dived into this one expecting it to be at least mostly as good. As the realms are descending into all-out war, Cat and Griffin must embrace their fate together. Griffin knows Cat is destined to change the world-for the better. So what’s a girl to do when she knows it’s her fate to be the harbinger of doom? Everything in her power. But now, her newfound loved ones are caught between the shadow of Cat’s tortured past and the threat of her world-shattering future. “Cat” Catalia Fisa has been running from her destiny since she could crawl.
